El Salvador First Impressions | What is Traveling in El Salv…

El Salvador is one of the most complex countries in the world and a place that has fascinated me, yet eluded me on several prior trips to Central America.

El Salvador has made no shortage of headlines in recent years, many choosing to condemn the country and others praising the hardball tactics implemented by its government. Many people are curious what El Salvador is truly like and while I only got a brief glimpse of the country, I walked away with countless stories and eye-opening experiences.

This first episode will tackle my first few days in San Salvador, the capital and largest city of El Salvador. While it isn’t a popular destination among travelers, it did prove to be extremely fascinating to find myself in. It felt like I was caught in the middle of El Salvador’s dramatic metamorphosis and watching it happen real-time.

Locals spoke to me of the country’s past, present, and future, and how their lives have changed in recent years. At the same time, the visible and tangible change that the city has experienced through increased development and funding to revitalize and modernize was amazing to witness. Despite not having anything particularly bucket-list worthy, traveling to San Salvador was an enriching and eye-opening experience.

El Salvador was full of surprises and I cannot say enough good things about it here. It should not be ignored on any Central American backpacking itinerary.
