Crossing Zambia on the Great East Road | South Luangwa Natio…
We’re up early and on the road, leaving Lusaka behind as we tackle 700 km of the Great East Road to reach South Luangwa National Park. It’s a long day of potholes, trucks, hand-painted signs, and a rather tense moment on an old bridge… but we finally make it. We check into Croc Valley Camp, meet our first elephant of the trip, and set up camp with a cold beer and a view of the Luangwa River.
In this series, Andy and I travel to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia to film its iconic wildlife. In the park we capture elephants, lions, leopards, Thornicroft’s giraffes, Crawshay’s zebras, and more in one of Africa’s most spectacular ecosystems.
South Luangwa National Park is one of Africa’s premier safari destinations, known for its exceptional leopard sightings, dramatic scenery, and rich biodiversity. Set along the winding Luangwa River in eastern Zambia, it’s home to elephants, hippos, crocodiles, lions, endemic giraffes, and over 400 bird species. Whether you’re a wildlife lover or filmmaker, this is one of Africa’s great wild places.
