“What is the aptitude of the city of Santos? These young people have to study courses that can serve to improve the economic growth and technological development of the city in which the institute is created,” she said.

The president participated, in Santos (SP), in the ceremony celebrating the 132nd anniversary of the Port of Santos and announcing the works on the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, on the coast of São Paulo.

The ceremony was attended by the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, to whom Lula also provided information about the approval of financing from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for the Rodoanel works.

“The BNDES approved R$1.3 billion for the state of São Paulo for the northern axis of the Rodoanel and you will soon receive the news from (BNDES president) Aloízio Mercadante.

In March 2023, the Via Appia Infrastructure and Participations Fund proposal won the Rodoanel auction. The project provides for the concession of public operation, maintenance and investment services for the operation of the road system for 31 years.

The northern axis of the Rodoanel is the last remaining section for the integration of all highways that surround the city of São Paulo. The works had been stopped since 2018. The section will be 44 kilometers long and will complete the Rodoanel in its 177 kilometers.

Work on the system began in 1998 with the aim of relieving traffic in the capital, mainly trucks. The first section was delivered in 2002. Work on the northern section is expected to be completed in 2025. As a result, the São Paulo government estimates a reduction in circulation of 18 thousand trucks per day within the capital.

With 44 kilometers long on the main axis, three to four lanes per direction and seven double tunnels, the northern section of the Rodoanel comprises the municipalities of São Paulo, Guarulhos and Arujá.
