ATIVESITE | Bridging barriers to healthcare: A blueprint for future global health

About 1,000 babies are born with #sicklecelldisease in sub-Saharan Africa each day. Over half of these children will die before they reach the age of five. Compare this to a high-income country like the U.S. where newborn screening and comprehensive disease management has reduced mortality in children with #SCD under five years old by 94%. It’s time for leaders from the public and private sectors to join forces in combatting not only the disease, but also the disparities in healthcare. A truly coordinated approach is key to overcoming barriers to accessing treatment for patients irrespective of where they live or their income.
