The Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo is recognized for its pioneering spirit and excellence in teaching and research. It was founded in 1912 and implemented in 1913. In 1931, the current Faculty of Medicine building was inaugurated. In 1934, he joined the University of São Paulo. FMUSP offers four undergraduate courses: Medicine, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The Medicine course is on the Pinheiros campus, with a built area of 44,000 square meters and the Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy courses are in Cidade Universitária in an area of 6,000 square meters. FMUSP has 1,400 undergraduate students, more than 1,000 employees, 368 of whom are professors; 1,800 postgraduate students and 1,600 residents. It has 26 postgraduate programs (master’s and doctorate), 62 medical residency specialty programs and 14 multi-professional and uni-professional residency programs. The average is 1,300 scientific articles published per year. It has the largest hospital in Latin America – Hospital das Clínicas, with more than one million outpatient consultations per year, more than 232 thousand urgent and emergency visits per year, more than 50 thousand surgeries per year. Hospital das Clínicas has eight institutes (Central Institute, Institute of Psychiatry, Heart Institute, Institute of Radiology, Institute of Radiology, Cancer Institute, Institute of Children and Adolescents, Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation ) and two auxiliary hospitals (Hospital Auxiliar Suzano and Hospital Auxiliar Cotoxó). FMUSP is one of the largest medical-scientific research centers in the country, with 62 medical research laboratories, the LIMs, with 230 research groups and significant intellectual production. The Faculty operates in partnership with the University Hospital – HU and has the Butantã School Health Center as a teaching-assistance unit at FMUSP, specialized in primary health care. It has more than a century of excellence in teaching and international recognition. In 2015, the Medical Winter Schools were implemented, which welcomes students from universities in different countries. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo constantly seeks to develop and promote excellence in teaching and research.
