ATIVESITE | Tips on Managing Child Anxiety

Occasional anxiety in children is expected, but how do you know what’s normal and what’s not? Dr. Mini Tandon, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, helps us better understand what signs to look for in our children to differentiate and shares tips on managing child anxiety. Anxiety can impair a child’s normal activities with symptoms such as a loss of interest in playing and interacting, loss of appetite, insomnia, becoming depressive, and even physical signs like shaking. As a parent, the best thing you can do is to know your child and what calms them. This may be through deep breathing, listening to music, or envisioning a place that relaxes them. If you have questions on how to decipher between typical or unusual anxiety within a specific age group, reach out to your pediatrician or child psychologist.
